From the Principal

Spring is in the air and May has arrived. Our teachers and students are continuing to work hard in preparation for PASS testing that will take place on May 8-12. Since the tests are not timed, we will not be able to predict what time we will finish testing each day. Please schedule appointments for after school. It is very important that every student be in attendance during these dates and that they arrive at school on time. Students that have perfect attendance during PASS will be allowed to have a uniform free day on May 18th. Breakfast will be free for all students during PASS. We ask that parents encourage their student(s) to get plenty of sleep and to do their best on the test. The results from PASS are important for the individual student as well as the school and district. If you would like to help us with monitoring during testing, please contact Audrey Keys at 469-8571 ext. 3206 or Cindy Dubose at ext. 3101.

Our students are continuing to make progress in and out of the classroom. Recently, several of our students brought pride and recognition to our school. I would like to congratulate Darrius Williams and Anastie Brooks for being selected by the Sumter Prevention Team for exemplifying stellar character. They were recognized at USC Nettles Auditorium along with other school winners. DeJuan Mc Donald and Precious Thompson were recognized by the Evening Optimist Club as Outstanding Middle School Youth. DeJuan was awarded the Male Youth of the Year award.

I am also extremely proud of the community service activities that have taken place since March. We have supported the American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, Relay for Life, and the Sumter County SPCA.

As the end of the school year rapidly approaches, we would like to thank everyone who served on committees, attended conferences, mentored students, or in any other way supported EMS.
